Crabeater Seal, Saturday morning, Ross Sea

Crabeater Seal, seen from the Greenpeace ship Esperanza, during expedition to find Japanese whaling fleet, 23rd February 2007. As the ship passed through the icepack on an still Saturday morning, the seal woke up from its lie-in, snorted, roared, and started digging its head into the ice, sending bits flying everwhere. I think it was unhappy about not being able to sleep off its hangover!.
