Placa de 1 Octobre, Sant Cugat

Placa del Rei (King’s Square), Sant Cugat, renamed Placa de l’1 Octobre, following the dramatic events of the Catalan independence referendum, which saw a majority of voters vote “yes” for independence, despite attacks by Spanish police on polling stations, injuring over 900 people. This sign was erected by Comitè de Defensa de la República, and while so far the naming is not official, moves are being made in the city council to rename the square. Dave Walsh, 2017.
