There is strong potential for further development of wind energy in Crete, which leads Greece in renewable energy generation. Current research suggests that wind could account for up to 70% of Crete's energy needs. Crete already has 160 mw of wind power with another 60 megawatts expected to be taken up soon, and 90 megawatts of photovoltaic solar farms are also expected.
